She had to make a living somehow, still refusing most of her inheritance for the sake of making her own way with school, apartments, and her own archeology career. It made things difficult sometimes but it was so much more fulfilling. And, yes, exciting.
"Water would be appreciated, actually. Thank you." Food though... that might be something she had to work up to once her stomach accepted the water. And, since she had been out a few days, her stomach would probably have trouble with handling food in general.
"I'll have to call Jonas, see if he can arrange funding and gear." At least she was taking his advice now though. At least a bit. And that would give her a chance to rest up like he'd prefer.
At this rate, he won't be able to stop her from attempting another expedition again despite his pleadings. Oh why oh why can't she can be a normal woman who wishes nothing more to stay home and marry a good man instead? Of course, there's an issue about her inheritance, but still...
But then again, if it's weren't for her thirst for adventure, he probably wouldn't be able to meet her by fate, and it's her adventurous spirit and playing with danger with whatever lurks in the jungle. He found that attractive and more tempting, and he figured Laura is not an ordinary woman...and Abel isn't ordinary himself either. He served in the military before and braved many far lands in military service to the Queen before he becomes a priest.
Eventually, Abel did bring her a glass of cold water to quench her thirst. As for food, he can go to the kitchen and get what she can eat, though by the looks of it, it will be a while for her stomach accept something more solid...and her recovery will take time and time can only tell.
"If you needed a phone, it's downstairs." And that means Laura must be awake and strong enough to brave the stairs if she seeks communications to her allies. "Don't take everything all at once, Laura. As for your crew, we found them. They are in the other rooms, and they're not awake yet. They are currently resting." Hopefully the news of her crew, her expedition team being alive and well brings her relief.
Oh no, he won't. Although she will concede on waiting until she's recovered properly, and so has her team. And she is grateful to have met him, to have been found by him. One of the few times they're expedition had turned out terribly at the start, she was glad to have met him and that he found them.
"Thank you." She took a few careful sips of the water at first, satisfying her thirst. And then quickly finishing it off when she realized just how thirsty she was. Even if a little voice at the back of her mind warned her that it might just make her sick so soon after waking up.
"I can't thank you enough, Father Nightroad... It can't have been easy but- thank you. So much. For helping us."
The sight of her relief is well worth the risk. He trusted his intuition when he sensed trouble from the start, and people called him mad to risk going into the jungle to search for her and her crew, but it's worth it. The last thing Abel need to know is a missing person report in the news.
"Ms. Laura, please. It's no problem at all. As all of you are safe." And they must have families and friends back home to consider. "You're welcome. I'm just glad all of you are safe."
Whether she would be well enough to try another expedition again or maybe he's hoping she will change her mind again to go home back to England and choose the safe route. He hoped he might be able to convince her of the latter choice.
He touched her forehead. His hands are warm and big. She is still warm, slightly feverish. "But first, let's get your fever down. I'll go find the nurse to give you more medicine. I imagine you need more bed rest."
The priest has many tasks to do and he must leave her soon, but not before he soaked a clean towel with cold water to put on her forehead to cool her down to battle the heat and humidity of the day.
I'm really glad I keep looking back at what threads I still have because gmail ate this one
